Travis Cottrell on working with NF
Travis Cottrell’s collaboration credits within CCM run deep, from Michael W. Smith to Keith and Kristyn Getty. On a list of songs the singer has appeared on, two stand out: “Change” and “I Miss the Days” off of NF’s 2019 album The Search. We were able to talk with Cottrell about working with the Michigan artist after a recent performance.

Midnight Donuts: How did those collaborations come about?
Travis Cottrell: Well, one of my best friends is Tommee Profitt, who is NF’s producer and cowriter. So Tommee just called in … like eight singers to sing on a couple of songs. … “Change” and “I Miss the Days.” So we just did that one day. We sing on a lot of things for Tommee, but NF’s stuff usually doesn’t have a background Gospel choir. But it just happened! We were working on something else with Tommee and he was like, “You know what? I think I’m going to put you on these songs.” So we came in and did it one day and it was a lot of fun.
Midnight Donuts: What was it like working with NF?
Travis Cottrell: He was super nice–very creative, very immersed in the process. We visited briefly. … Highly highly highly creative.
Midnight Donuts: Do you have a favorite NF song?
Travis Cottrell: Well, everybody knows “Let You Down” and loves it… I’m gonna probably say “Change.” I mean I’ve listened to it the most because we were on it. [Laughs]
