Midnight Donuts: As of right now, "No More Weeping" is probably my favorite track off the album—the sample combined with the theme of the song is just so compelling. The yelled "no more!" in the chorus is just so good every time.
Jeremiah Dirt: All the things you mentioned in the "No More Weeping" track are specific items I focused on. So it's always confirming to have someone take note.
I sampled from this old 78 Shellac record—an old “negro spiritual”—the label was so worn that I don't know the name of the song or who is singing. I just enjoyed the melody and the words.
The screamo "no more:" I enjoy mashing music genres... The more extreme the better... But it's gotta mesh well too. My brain thought, "what could be more distant in music style than this softly changed, melodic spiritual hymn?"
Death Metal screaming!
So I had The M's husband scream those, as he used to be in a metal band.
I originally had that song slotted for the Solomon Cain: the Cross & the Switchblade album…
Like a lot of my and our tracks, the songs sometimes sit on the shelf forever. But I never give up on ‘em. I always want them out and being what they are meant for: to encourage, enlighten and entertain people towards God.
The piano part in the break: I played on this 300$ Arturia keyboard that ended up getting used ONLY ONCE for this song... Before eventually breaking in transit of a move. (I've always been mad that I had that keyboard for 8yrs and never used it more.)
“No More Weeping (feat. Samuel Oxymoron, Jeremiah Dirt, the M, & Noiz)” is track 18 on the recent album a Mighty Army Cometh, vol.2 G-R by hip-hop collective Shadow of the Locust. Connect with Dirt and SotL at JeremiahDirt.com and LocustFist.com respectively.
